I have the regular DVR box and currently have the Coax connection and tv looks a little fuzzy. Am getting Monster component video cables through mail and have HDMI but those are for HDTV programming I was told. Can component hook up through DVD/ VCR and tv look better? Alot of questions here but I need help please. It is HDTV Sony 3 LCD rear projection tv.

Using HDMI wherever you can will simplify your setup and give you excellent picture quality, even for non HD programming. If your DirecTV box doesn’t have HDMI, and I’m betting it doesn’t, the component cables you’re ordering will be your best bet.
In terms of picture quality, regular coax is the worst connection you could use. While some HDTV’s are just plain bad at displaying non-HD signals, I suspect you’ll see a significant difference in clarity with the new cables.
you can only get hdtv programming if the network broadcasts in hdtv. I used to work with dirctv and they offer hdtv programming to everyone if you have the right equipmnt, or they’ll give it to you, sometimes for free depending on how much you ***** over the phone.
They have like 6 channel for $10.99.
I dont really know about those equipment so sorry if that didnt help.
Just to add: I believe using the hdtv cables for non-hdtv programming would be ok.
