How Do I Hook Up My Laptop To My Sony Hdtv?

-I want to watch something from my Laptop.-
The laptop has USB, HDMI, and VGA ports. The TV has the same (HDMI, USB, and VGA). I am looking for one cord for both audio and video and I have heard rumors about VGA only putting out Video. Any suggestions? I’ve searched online, but I’m not getting a clear answer!

VGA only puts out video, but HDMI gives both. You can get a cheap cord at amazon for under $10 and it’ll work fine. (I just got one). USB might be a bit harder to set up, but HDMI or VGA you just need to plug in and go to video properties.

Edit: Video properties can be found several ways, but I’ll assume you have Vista, since my Dell Studio has the same.
Click the start menu->go to control panel->Adjust Screen Resolution. (under Appearance and Personalization).

Here you can extend your desktop to the second monitor (your TV). You can then use your TV to watch anything you have on your computer by dragging the window you are playing it in over to the TV. (Default is off to the right of the screen I believe)

Also, another post says that your laptop won’t transmit sound via the HDMI cable, but that is not true. Mine transmits sound perfectly through the cable to my Sony HDTV.

“some laptops/computers that come with an HDMI output port built-in. If your HDTV has an HDMI input then all you would need to connect the two devices would be an HDMI cable. Although HDMI can send audio and video signals in the same cable, few laptops that have HDMI connection can actually do this. For connecting the audio from your computer to your TV/receiver see the information at the end of this page.”
