I have a 50″ samsung 720p dlp hdtv, a ps3, and a blu ray movie that’s 1080p. When every i put on the movie the tv screen display “no signal” but you hear the sound of the movie through the surround sound hooked up to the ps3. games play fine. What can i do?

Yes it will work…. A lot of people erroneously assume 1080p will always be better than 720p. Yes there is more data per frame (1280×720 vs 1920×1080) but the problem is limitation of the human eye to detect this resolution difference. At the link below you’ll find a chart showing where the benefit of 1080p can be noticed by the human eye based on screen size and viewing distance. Following that chart for a 50″ HDTV you would have to set about 6-7 feet from the television to see the difference.
If that 50″ HDTV is in a living room of mid-size 3 bedroom house, you’ll probably be setting 8-12 feet from the screen at which point 1080p has no advantage to you over 720p.
try adjusting your video output settings to 720p. It will work but it won’t look as good as it should.
